One of the most historically significant buildings in Worcester — built in 1577, this is the very house through which King Charles II made his escape after the Battle of Worcester in 1651. Today it's a superb pub and restaurant with oak-clad walls, roaring fires, and award-winning pies served alongside twelve real ales and local ciders, all produced within thirty miles.

Don't miss asking about the oubliette — the building's own dungeon. A talking point at every visit.
The King Charles House is widely considered one of the best eating houses in Worcester — focused on high-quality, traditional British pub food with genuinely excellent pies, steaks, and Sunday roasts. The atmosphere is warm and historic, and Sunday lunch here is a real treat. Popular with both locals and visitors, booking ahead is recommended.

Authentic American Southern BBQ in a brilliant riverside location next to Cripplegate Park. Brisket smoked for up to 16 hours in Ole Hickory smokers from Missouri, fall-off-the-bone ribs, hand-shaken cocktails, and freshly made milkshakes. A fantastic choice for groups, families, and celebrations — the atmosphere is lively and the portions are generous.

The Hickory Platter covers nearly all the mains — perfect for sharing and trying a bit of everything. The cherry cream soda in a jam jar is a must.
Hickory's is one of Worcester's most popular restaurants and fills up fast, especially at weekends — always book ahead. Brunch is served daily until 2pm. The outdoor seating area is great in summer and the restaurant is dog-friendly in the bar and outside. There's also a cinema room that younger guests particularly love.

A warm and welcoming local pub on the outskirts of Worcester in St John's — a firm favourite with locals and a great spot for a relaxed meal or a well-earned pint. Home-cooked Sunday lunches, pub classics, a good beer garden, and live sports on screen. The kind of friendly local that's always good value and never disappoints.

Thursday steak night is excellent value — well worth planning a visit around. The beer garden is lovely on a summer evening.
The Portobello is a proper community pub — welcoming to families, dogs in the bar area, and a function room available for private hire. The team are genuinely friendly and the food is consistently good, hot, and quick to the table. A great nearby option if you're staying in our St John's or Powick area properties.

A truly special farm café built on stilts over a woodland pond on the edge of Worcester — one of those places that immediately makes you exhale. All-day breakfasts, hot baps, stone-baked pizzas, homemade cakes and the famous Bennetts ice cream, made with milk from their own herd on the farm next door.
Dog-friendly, family-friendly, and always lovely.
OUR TIP
The all-day cottage breakfast is a local institution. Grab a balcony table if you can — the view over the pond is beautiful whatever the weather.
Bennetts uses locally sourced produce throughout — their own dairy, eggs from Stockend Farm in Powick, and beef from Madresfield Estate just down the road. The glass interior is light and airy, the outside decking overlooks the pond and Malvern Hills beyond, and there's a play area for younger visitors. A wonderful hidden gem tucked away in St John's — bigger than it looks from the outside, with a warm, friendly atmosphere and staff who know their regulars by name. Handmade Lavazza coffee, all-day breakfasts, fresh sandwiches, paninis, cakes, and toasted teacakes at prices that put the big chains to shame. An honest, unpretentious local favourite.

The Beanies Big Breakfast is outstanding value and genuinely brilliant — thick-cut bacon, herby sausages, and great coffee. Arrives all day.
Beanies is the kind of neighbourhood coffee shop that always has a queue of regulars for good reason. The coffee is made properly to order, the cakes are freshly made, and the seating area out the back is a pleasant surprise for first-timers. Handy free parking at the nearby Sainsbury's.

Worcester's best chippy — part of the famous Mother Hubbard's family, which has been serving legendary fish and chips since 1972. Their unique batter is developed entirely in-house, free from artificial colouring and flavouring, and the result is crispy, golden perfection around beautifully flaky white fish. Sit in overlooking the canal, or grab a takeaway box to go.

The extra-large fish and chips is the one to go for if you're hungry — a 12–16oz fillet in that famous batter. Proper British seaside experience, right here in Worcester.

The food is prompt and reasonably priced, and the space is warm and welcoming — table service throughout. It's particularly lovely on a fine day when the courtyard comes alive. A brilliant choice for families coming out of the museum, or anyone exploring this corner of the city.
